Healthcare consultancy gains B Corp status reflecting ethical approach

Healthcare infrastructure consultancy Archus has achieved UK B Corporation (B-Corp) certification, in recognition of its commitment to creating positive social and environmental impacts for the communities in which it operates.

The company has been certified by B Lab, the not-for-profit behind the B Corp movement, as having met rigorous social and environmental standards, a mark of its commitment to goals outside of shareholder profit. The company now joins a global community of more than 1500 B Corps in the UK and 7000 worldwide.

Archus’ journey to B-Corp certification involved a detailed assessment of its operations, including its impact on workers, customers, community, and the environment – in addition to a legally embedded commitment to purpose beyond profit in its company articles. The company says it achieved a score of 98.5 under the certification process, far higher than the benchmark score required of more than 80 to pass.

Shane Dineen, managing director of Archus, said: “We’re incredibly proud to have achieved B-Corp certification with an excellent B-Impact score, which is reflective of the importance we place on maintaining ethical business practices. At Archus, we have always believed that creating sustainable healthcare infrastructure is about far more than just physical structures. This milestone reinforces our unwavering commitment to social and environmental stewardship, not only through the work we undertake within the healthcare sector but for the communities we operate in.”

Chris Turner, executive director of B Lab UK, said: “Being able to welcome Archus to the B Corp community is hugely exciting. Its commitment to doing business differently will be an inspiration to others and really help spread the idea that we can redefine success in business to be as much about people and planet as it is about profit.”

The consultancy recently announced the appointment of Katie Wood as its new head of programme and project management.

As a seasoned technical advisor, programme manager and project director, Wood will focus on supporting a broad range of clients in both the delivery of healthcare infrastructure and strategic initiatives from inception to completion, along with the ongoing development and expansion of programme and project management services at Archus.

Joining from Arup, Wood’s career includes leadership of business cases, strategies, and major capital investments across a diverse range of healthcare programmes and projects in the UK and globally, including Australia, Canada, Peru, Ireland, and Singapore. Alongside technical expertise, she is a passionate advocate for how the built environment can positively impact health and wellbeing.

Victoria Head, director of commercial and performance at Archus, commented on the appointment, saying: “We’re thrilled to welcome Katie to Archus. Her extensive industry experience, track record and qualifications make her the ideal candidate to lead our multidisciplinary project teams, while her ability to translate complex technical challenges into client-centric solutions aligns perfectly with our commitment to creating innovative, sustainable healthcare infrastructure.”

Responding to her appointment, Wood said she is looking forward to working with Archus’ clients and partners “to deliver innovative solutions that make a positive impact, both on the healthcare industry and the health outcomes of communities”.
