Future Health 2050: The Sensory Hospital – Sensory Stories
By SALUS User Experience Team | 09 May 2024 | 0
This two-part webinar series, The Sensory Hospital, features ambitious projects and research at the intersection of integrated art, architecture, and technology, which are helping to transform hospitals from bland spaces into sensorially rich places.
Abstract
In this first episode, we see how drawings, colour and patterns are being used to make entire sensory environments that create a sense of narrative and meaning as patients progress their journey.
Neuroscientists now believe there may be anywhere between 22 and 33 senses (or more). We believe it is time to rethink how a robust, multisensory approach can contribute to better wellbeing in hospital environments of the future.
In these two webinars, we’ll see how digital artwork can stimulate patients’ vision and activate their proprioception – allowing doctors to tune into diagnosis more playfully. We’ll explore the benefits of texture, audio, and haptics in art and wayfinding schemes.
We’ll understand how research into multisensory environments and activities can boost recovery times and clinical outcomes. We’ll see extraordinary artworks at the intersection of lighting, coding, and sculpture, which are contributing to better sleep and recovery cycles. And we’ll learn how organic materials can restore a sense of the organic, and with it, a mindful peace before treatment.
