Future Health 2050: From room to village: Design support for competence in dementia
By SALUS User Experience Team | 11 Jul 2024 | 0
This Future Health 2050 webinar explores the role that physical design plays in the I’m Still Here HOPE public narrative – replacing the view of dementia from one of disease, despair, and meds, to one of disability, hope, and design.
Abstract
The webinar, supported by Gerflor, explores how environmental design at various scales can improve the abilities of individuals with dementia. This includes spaces ranging from individual rooms to entire villages and health policies.
The physical environment is highlighted as crucial in uncovering abilities, fostering skills, and supporting competencies, especially for those with dementia. Despite the stigma and narrative of inevitable decline, individuals with dementia have many competencies that can be highlighted through thoughtful design.
