Serving as lead contractor, Eiffage Construction has been awarded a contract to design, build, operate and maintain the university areas of the Grand Paris Nord university and hospital campus in Saint- Ouen-sur-Seine, near Paris.
The French civil engineering construction company secured the contract as part of a consortium with architects PCA-STREAM and Michel Rémon & Associés, and design consultants Ingérop, WSP and OASIIS.
The contract was announced by EPAURIF, a public-sector body responsible for university development in the Île-de-France region, and was awarded by Paris-Cité university.
The university and hospital campus will accommodate teaching, research and medical care activities, making it a flagship hub for the Île-de-France region. It represents one of the largest national public investments of the decade, financed by state credits.
The university project, covering almost 77,000m2, will include four buildings dedicated to teaching, research, amphitheatres and a convention centre. Designed to promote an interdisciplinary approach and educational innovation, it will also incorporate imaging and simulation suites for medical, dental and nursing research and training. A huge 4000m2 central garden will be created to encourage social interaction and provide a pleasant environment for all site users.
The project also has ambitious environmental goals, targeting HQE “highly performing” certification and the E3C1 label, with the use of renewable energies, planted roof spaces and reused materials.
Following a 17-month design phase, work will begin in spring 2026 and take 40 months to complete.
Eiffage Construction will carry out the works on a general contracting basis. Full delivery of the university hub is expected in the third quarter of 2029. Teams from Eiffage Services will be taking on the operation and maintenance of the campus for a 12-year period.
